Geared Up For The World Cup
The countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup is almost over! In a few short days, football fans the world ‘round will rejoice and station themselves in front of the telly, while the snacks and booze flow.
While I’m not the most dedicated football fan around, I couldn’t possibly root for any team other than England between 11 June and 11 July 2010. It will be especially fun to egg on my flatmates. You see, we’re an international bunch—a detail that might prove to be (exciting, scary, hilarious?) in the month to come as we cheer on our respective teams.
First off we have Alice,* our resident American expatriate, who will be weeping in defeat after Saturday’s match. As if they have a chance against England!
Next there’s Nancy: Canadian-born, Portuguese by blood. Needless to say, her heart bleeds green and red. And if Portugal doesn’t make it, (and let’s be honest here…) then she’ll switch to Brazil and resident hottie Ronaldo. I’m with England all the way, but even I can admit they make ‘em good down south in Brazil!
As for my final flatmate, Gianni—could he be any more Italian?—I think you can deduce where his loyalties lie. He’s probably the most passionate fan of the four of us, making me almost wish—almost—that Italy will win if only so I can avoid the carnage and emotional backlash that will surely result in the wake of an Italian defeat.
Clearly the next month at our place is going to be very lively. We’re hosting a few parties, starting this Saturday with the England v. United States match. I can’t wait, (did I mention Alice will be weeping in defeat?) and my new England jersey from Kitbag will proudly be worn. Speaking of Kitbag, everything World Cup related of theirs is now 10% off!
UKSoccerShop.com is offering some pretty incredible World Cup deals as well, so for those of you not fully decked out as of yet, I suggest you take advantage of VoucherGurus for Kitbag vouchers and UKSoccerShop deals, and most importantly GET PUMPED for the 2010 World Cup!
*Names have been changed to protect these individuals from the embarrassment that comes with the crushing defeat of their favourite teams.
