How Sweet the Smell… of a New Magazine

Ah, magazines…

I don’t know what it is about them I love so much.  Maybe it’s the smell?  Who doesn’t love the fresh scent of printed paper—and those perfume samples?

Okay so maybe the smell isn’t for everyone, but I guarantee there is a magazine for everyone.  Pretty much any subject you could ever dream up has it’s own magazine, even obscure interests.  Don’t believe me?  Just Google [insert interest here] magazine.  If there isn’t an official print magazine associated with it, there’s almost always an unofficial online-style zine.

So while I may not actually subscribe to all of my various interests’ magazines (I simply couldn’t afford it), I have been known to spend hours at the local bookstore perusing the newsstand.  It may not be top quality literature, but what can I say—it must be the smell.

Plus if I’m thinking about subscribing to something, I have to read a few issues to make sure it’s a sound investment. That’s definitely part of it.

It feels good to be doing your part in keeping the printed word alive in this digital age, doesn’t it? (And yes, I’m fully aware of the irony that I’m contributing to a blog and encouraging people to shop online… pointedly ignoring this fact).

Another great site for subscribing to your favourite magazines is Magscriber.com.  With so many choices—at at such great prices—it really doesn’t make sense to subscribe the conventional way ever again.

And if for some reason you can’t find what you’re looking for between the two of these sites, then you may have stumbled upon the only subject not yet featured in a magazine.  To you I say: start your own!  There are always bound to be others out there with the same interest.  It’s a small world, sure,  but it’s not that small.
